Difference between battery kit of P400 and P410

Hi @all,

does anybody knows the difference between the battery kit of P400 and P410?
We tried to use the battery kit of a P400 to run with a P410 - and i could not believe it - it doesnt work.
Error message says that we have to replace the battery kit with the right one.

The volt and the ampere are the same - i think there is only a serialnumber and because of this we have to buy plenty of new battery kits.

Is this only a possibilty to earn money for hp?

Did anyone tried inverse procedure - install Battery (462976-001) from P410 controller to old P400 controller instead of (398468-001) ??? Any success ???

Re: Difference between battery kit of P400 and P410

I'm curious, has it worked?

By looking at the specs, it shouldn't work.

398648-001: Ni-MH, 4.8V, 5000mAh

462976-001: Ni-MH, 4.8V, 650mAh

Was there any error reported during POST or in the ACU/SMH about a wrong battery been installed?

I'm curious do let me know, Thanks

Re: Difference between battery kit of P400 and P410

I wouldn't bet on this, but I *think* that a P410 battery will work on a P400.  But I know for certain that a P400 battery will NOT work on a P410.

If you have an extra battery of one type or another, like you have a working battery pack from a P400 and you need to use that on your P410, there is a little workaround...

Rather than just plug in the whole module, take a close look at the little circuit board on the battery module.  It can unclip from the battery housing... unclip your P410 circuit board and clip it into the battery pack from the P400.  It should work.

As noted, there may be a slight difference in the # of mAH but it will do in a short-term situation.

My favorite solution right now is to ditch the non-replaceable HP batteries and I've just been building my own using some inexpensive 4xAAA battery boxes from the local electronics store, soldered to the +/- locations in that circuit board and that's it.  You can now swap out the batteries if/when they no longer hold a charge.
