Re: Disappointed with new DL380 G6 fan noise

You need to update the ILO 2 firmware.

It seems that “if the iLO 2 receives invalid temperature information, iLO 2 will increase the fan speed to the maximum speed to cool down overheated hard drives”. To resolve the issue, an upgrade of the iLO firmware version is required (installing firmware version 1.81 or later).

while searching for the fan noise issues resolved , found this in one of the blogs and also couple of users have reportedly resolved the issue

In order to slow the crazy fans, you need
1. Power down the G6 server
2. Disconnect the power cord, and then wait for several minutes
3. Reconnect the power cord
4. Power on the server
5. If there’s no warning, enjoy!

Re: Disappointed with new DL380 G6 fan noise

What iLO2 firmware version you have?

iLO2 controls the fans in G6. If iLO2 stops responding for some reason, the fans will automatically go up to 100%.

We have solved multiple issues that caused iLO2 stop responding in the past 2 years alone. I'd recommend you all to upgrade iLO2 firmware to the latest and greatest.

If you still run into this issue with the latest firmware, I want to know.

Disconnect the attached storage and use the sata ports instead, that should reduce the noise significantly
