Our current case no is 4602643536. HP kindy lost our original case no raised in June / July. It must just be there way of leeting us know they care about their customers and the need to actually provde solutions to issues with their products.

Can you please tell us what your case no is Lackb?

Cheers

I have the same problem.
Installed a SCSI card and now the fan is runnig at high speed.

Removed the scsi card and the fans running normal again.

Re: Disappointed with new ML350 G6 fan noise

Guys,
Are you running with the all the latest firmware. This could fix the problem.
You need your ILO and BIOS firmwares upto the latest versions.
AND you also need to update the Power Controller Firmware. This is found in the "firmware" section of the drivers/firmware page.
BIOS, ILO and Power Controller firmware versions are all interdependant on each other for best operation.

Adrian,

Yes to using latest firmwares (and all the updates released since raising the issue in May - grin).

HP tech support have also been able to reproduce the fault which would imply it's a bug and not a config issue or hardware defect.

Thanks for the input,

Re: Disappointed with new ML350 G6 fan noise

I've now had a reponse from HP, but you're not going to like it...

"Following the update from Product Engineering:

If your customers are seeing the following it is normal.

For G6 system ROMS, it will load different type of fan data/table into the system based on the system configuration for cooling configurations:
Basically, we have:
1P Redundant No PCI cards
1P Non-Redundant No PCI cards
1P Non-Redundant with PCI cards
2P Redundant No PCI cards
2P Non-Redundant No PCI cards
2P Non-Redundant with PCI cards

If customers are seeing FAN#1 = 23% and FAN#2 = 35%, this is BY DESIGN. They are the minimal acceptable fan speed for 1P Non-Redundant with PCI card installed configuration.

If all customers are only seeing fan speeds = 23%, 35% respectively, this is not a problem."

So, its taken 4 months for HP support to come back and say it's meant to work that way. Over this period I've probably wasted a total of 3 days reconfiguring this server, swapping parts and checking diagnotics. I'm sorry but in future I'll stick with another brand of server.

Re: Disappointed with new ML350 G6 fan noise

I think this explains why I've never noticed this problem, even though I load our ML350 G6's with multiple PCI cards. We always buy the redundant power supply! A single power supply must have to work harder, and therefore hotter, causing the fans to rev up.

Re: Disappointed with new ML350 G6 fan noise

Hello,

Information from HP
The case is eleviert to our engineering in America.
A New System ROM BIOS!

├в Looking into the ROM code to identify the area where it might have effect on this problem.├в

When exact this Bios released? No Answer

Re: Disappointed with new ML350 G6 fan noise

Same problem here - Server is in a cold room, all temps are fine, except the storage bay, only - sitting at 49degree c, all fans are at high...

Latest drivers/firmware across the board.
