Dl380, 2nd Smart Array & external drives problem.

I wanted to attatch an external Andataco 3 drive enclosure to a DL380. Currently the DL380 has 6 drives internally and 2 tape drives connected externally. I added in a Smart Array 221 and connected the drives.

The Andataco unit itself indicates with lights that the drives are attatched. Cables are firmly connected. This is the message I get:

1175-Slot 4 Drive Array - Proliant Storage Enclosure Not Responding
SCSI Port 1: Check storage enclosure power switch and cables.
Turn system power OFF while checking power...
1785-Slot 4 Drive Array Not Configured
No Drives Detected

So far running SmartStart Array configuration or diagnostics have not helped. I have unplugged the unit and connected it to a Dell server that has an Adaptec 2940 card, all drives detected fine.

Any ideas? I have run multiple Smart Array cards before in DL380s without problem when connected to a true storage array. This Andataco is just an external drive enclosure for SCA 80 pin drives
