Dl380G9 - Fan issue

Hello,

got some troubles with the Fans of our DL380G9.

The fan speed varies quite strong which is reflected in permanent volume changes.

HP Support blames not supported HGST 8TB HE Drives for this behaviour - but I'm not quite sure if that's the case.

Running Windows 2012R2.

Someone here observed the same behaviour? Any other ideas than the HDDs on this?

Thank you

Andreas Schnederle-Wagner

Re: Dl380G9 - Fan issue

Hi,

In some cases, if you install any third party hard drives or RAM or PCI cards, the fan may spin fast and produce loud noise.

This is because the third party hardware does not contain HP Firmware.

You can try the following:

1. Update BIOS Firmware.

2. Update iLO4 Firmware.

Refer to HP UEFI System Utilities User Guide for HP ProLiant Gen9 Servers.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04398276

Page 63, Fan and Thermal Options.  Try Optimal Cooling, Increased Cooling, Maximum Cooling.

Thank You!
