Do the HP DL360 G5 RHEL P400i SAS Driver can install on CentOS?

Hi all,

I am new on HP DL360 G5.

Yes I know it is old, and I find some 2nd on the market, so I want to buy one of this for my self learning and using.

Some of questions ther is, I want to install the latest CentOS 6.x (I know it is base on RHEL 6.x).

But before buy for double safe.

I go to HP Support and find the RHEL 6.0 on the support list

Do this driver can work with CentOS 6.x?

And do the HP SmartStart CD x64 8.7

It can help me auto install the CentOS 6.x?

And for future CentOS, if the Samrt CD not release again. How to install it? Anyone using old HP like G3, G4 etc have success install CentOS on it without using Smart CD? So I can know some base on this case.

Thank of your time and answrer.

Re: Do the HP DL360 G5 RHEL P400i SAS Driver can install on CentOS?

Hello ExplorerJimmy;

Do this driver can work with CentOS 6.x?  Actually that driver is created to run online form the OS, so if you need a driver in order to install the OS it's neccesary to use a "Diskette Driver" so you can load it during installation to have access to the RAID Logical Drive.

This one will work for that an also will work with CentOS as well:

And do the HP SmartStart CD x64 8.7 :  Wil not work for assisted isntallation.  Just to do some test offline in the server.

It can help me auto install the CentOS 6.x?  Not at all.  You can download the PSP and run it online after the installation in order to have all drivers and tools installed.

It has some other OS dependencies like some 32 bits libraries.

Re: Do the HP DL360 G5 RHEL P400i SAS Driver can install on CentOS?

Hi viniviof,

Thank you of the reply...

It look like more more complex compare install on general PC, yes, I have many experience install CentOS or other Linux on PC, they not need load the driver for the Intel RAID.

One big question, on your given link, and the way example. It is by make a floppy disk to load the driver.

But nowadays all server within the DL360 G5 also haven't floppy disk, only DVD-ROM, USB, then how to solve this way?
