Domain Controller Upgrade

I have an existing Primary Domain Conrtoller. The hardware is a desktop computer (compaq dektop pro!). The OS is windows NT server.

The new hardware is HP proliant - DL120 GS
The new OS is windows 2008 server.

I need to replace the old one withe the new one. What is the easiest way to do this?

Background info:
The current PDC hosts 2 domains with a few workstations/servers (< 10). Temporary disconnecting the PDC is not a big deal (down time is flexible).

Thanks

Re: Domain Controller Upgrade

Wow that's old skool stuff.
You need to install the new server as a BDC, make sure the DC's sync and the promote the BCD to PDC.

Will the NT server synch with the 2008 server?

Re: Domain Controller Upgrade

Mmmm, W2008. I missed that little fact.
I don't think it's possible to use 2008 as a PDC for a NT4 domain. But I also don't think that NT4 will be supported on that server.
Your prabably better of setting up a new AD domain, run it in mixed mode and move the servers into the new AD domain.
