Drives attached to Raid and Scsi at the same time?
I was told that it is not possible to have drives attached to a 5300 Raid card and then add additonal stand alone drives (not in any raid) to a internal scsi controller. Is this true? If so can someone explain why one cant do this? Is this true no matter what raid card you use?
thanks
thanks

Re: Drives attached to Raid and Scsi at the same time?
You didn't specify which server you are using. The problem is with SCA drive cage. For example with ML350 you have only one "input" for SCSI connector, so when you use Smart raid and hotswap hard disks, then all drives are used with Smart raid. If we still use the ML350 G3/G4 as an example, it has two Ultra320 scsi buses, which you can still use, but you can't connect it to the same drive cage, which is already connected to your raid controller. But if you want to use normal non-hotswap scsi drives, there should be no problems in connecting them, the only problem might be the space (you might have couple of 5,25" slots available).
