I have recently added 2 drives to a Proliant 5500 with a Smart-3200 controller. The drives are operational and working fine. In the Insight Manager, these drives have a degraded status (yellow). The required action that is listed is "replace drive". On the drive itself, there is no indication that the drives have failed. No trashcan-LED is active. Has anybody had a similar experience? Could this be a firmware issue?

Solution
Hello Wilbert,
You need to update the firmware of the SA3200 if this is not done already. The SP you need for that is 19677 which you can download from link No 1 below. Secondly, apply M&P patch for the HDDs which is SP16373 which you can download from Link No 2. If all else fails then consider updating the firmware of HDDs whic you can download from Link No 3:
Link No 1:(You need diskette No 1 only) http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/14694.html
Link No 2:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/10468.html
Link No 3:

Re: Drives marked as degraded in IM
Thanks for the quick reply.
Softpack 19677 has version 3.10a, while my controller currently has firmware version 4.26. Are these two numbers unrelated then (sp version vs. firmware version)?

Re: Drives marked as degraded in IM
Hello Wilbert,
Yes those are two different Nos. Once you apply the first disette from SP19677 it will bring the firmware upto 4.50.
Cheers,
