E200i firmware not shown in VCA and update fails
after a previous bunch of updates I have several servers (ML350G5, W2K3) at our customers'
where the raid controller is no longer shown in version control agent (VCA).
Trying to update the firmware with the Online Rom Flash 1.86 (cp012810.exe) results in
a "Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library" error window popping up.
When the Online RROM Flash is extracted before, the above error does not occur. Instead it
says:
"Setup was unable to determine the current state of the software on this system. It may or
may not have been installed previously."
I opened a case and after sending the HPSReport I was told to remove a non-HP ISDN card.
Unfortunately this card is required for enterprise fax ...
Since the problem exists with several, maybe all ML350G5 servers at different customers I
think that there is a general problem with the previous E200i raid controller firmware
release.
So I told them to close the case unsolved.
ACU says that the current firmware is 1.84
Any ideas beyond an offline firmware update?
PS: I suffer from the impression that there are more weird things with HP drivers and
management software nowadays than maybe 5 years ago. It happens quite often that a NIC
disappears from the list in VCA and only reappears after a manual driver update, other
devices are shown twice or weird device names like bxnd52x.sys are listed. Or you are offered
updates for components and when trying to install them you are told that the hardware is not
present. I am definately loosing my confidence!

Re: E200i firmware not shown in VCA and update fails
ok start the os in safe mode with out networking and vga only
now shutdown start the server do not just restart
now go into sfe mode with networking an dnorm graphics
look in devmanger
look for devices with quetion maqrks or red marks , note them
restart in normal mode now
what happens now do we still have issue
if issue persists use firmware dvd 9.00boot from it
take all firmware upgrades
then software cd rom 8.4 in the os let it install lates drivers and utils , and let it go on the web
remove the isdn card if possible when doing all this if possible
what happens now is all ok
if not use the second cd boot from it and run full diagnostics and post it here i will look through it,

Re: E200i firmware not shown in VCA and update fails
(why does REPLY show my own message instead of the one I try to reply to?)
thank you very much for your answer.
The next scheduled maintainance for the most problematic server is first Monday in June.
I will go through your steps then.
My fault was that I put two questions in one case because there are still other servers where no raid controller is shown in VCA and those do not contain non-HP hardware.
Nobody but me got the problem that one or another component are not listed in VCA every now and then?

Re: E200i firmware not shown in VCA and update fails
I have performed an offline firmware update on the server in question.
After the firmware update, the raid controller showed the new firmware in POST.
The raid controller is still not displayed in Version Control.
HP has released a new firmware update which in fact contains a binarily identical firmware file but which does not produce the "Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library" error message. Beyond this the new firmware update says that there is no need to update the firmware because it is up to date WHEN THE RAID CONTROLLER STILL HAD THE OLD FIRMWARE.
(Tested on two different servers).
(Fujitsu server start to look more attractive ...)
Best regards
Erhard
