EFI based utility for ML570

Is there any EFI utility to use with ML570 proliant server? I need to update a firmware for 302970-b21 booting from EFI boot manager.
any comments will be appreciated

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

What's the "real" problem?

There was only one Itanium based Proliant in the past (many years ago) - I think it was the DL590.

All others still using a BIOS - not EFI.

Again, what's the problem?

Hope this helps!

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

We have a ML570 server with an storage controller 302069-b21, we try to add a new storage controller 302970-b21, but its requesting some update to the firmware, on the instruction we found to create an EFI partition and mountvol, etc, and boot from the EFI boot manager, and we cannot see nothing similar when the server is booting.
Maybe we are not doing the right procedure to detect the new storage array.

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

the thing is that when we connect the 2 scsi's fromthe new storage , the configuration utility only detects half of the ne storage array and the old storage array.
If we only connect the new storage array we got a message: " 6400 controller internal and external drives cannot both be attached to the same scsi part (controller is disabled until this problem is solve)"

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

The controller of my server has A1,A2,B1,B2, the firs storage(302969-b21 only one scsi cable) was connected to the B2. Now the new storage array its detected only on B1,B2 (302970-b21 has two scsi cables), if I connect the first storage array to A1 or A2 it is not detected. My question now is , how many storage arrays or scsi cables can I connect to my controller? only two? or do i have to setup a configuration to detect both storages?

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

All the EFI stuff is for Integrity servers only, not for Proliants!

The real problem is here:

internal and external drives cannot both be attached to the same scsi part

So better check this.

Hope this helps!

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

how to change the scsi ID for the controller?

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

Why?

No way!

You are not allowed to install both - internal and external - disk to the same scsi channel. This is what the controller was telling you.

Hope this helps!

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

then, is not possible to connect the 3 scsci cables from both storage arrays in the same controller (A1,A2,B1,B2)?

Re: EFI based utility for ML570

>> 3 scsci cables from both storage arrays

What kind of device (model name) is it?

I think you have an SA6404.

(this is just a double SA6402 - more or less).

From the manual:

"The Smart Array Controllers have 2 (6402) or 4 (6404) channels. There are 2
channels on the 6402 base controller, each having one internal and one external
connector. One connector can be used per channel at any given time. If both the
internal and external connectors on the same channel are connected to the IPF
platform and boot is attempted, the following message will be displayed:
1783 - Drive Array Controller Failure!
[Controller self-test failure (failure code = 0093])
Unless this problem is fixed the controller will not be available upon boot. If the
system is booted, the Smart Array will lock up."

OK, this is from the Integrity related doc, but it applies to Proliant too.

You are only allowed to either the internal __OR__ the external channel at a time.

Open the box and check what is already connected!

Hope this helps!
