ESXi on DL180G5

Of course I knew, that this server is NO in compatibility list of ESX.
But did anybody try and how successful?
As for me - ESXi3.5u2 have been working on my DL180G5 about a month, occasionally falling in PSOD

Re: ESXi on DL180G5

I was wondering the same thing...

As to me the DL18x G5 is ideal for a low cost virtualisation environment (esxi)without a san.

the 185 g5 is a little bit more suited for the job, because the more memory it supports compared to the DL180 g5. Also the dual NIC controller is an advantage.

one of problems with 180g5 is that ESX don`t see local storage (at least embedded raid)

Re: ESXi on DL180G5

thanks for the info!

have you tried to manually change the oem.tgz
as explained on:
http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/customize_oem_tgz.php

also on that site you find some info about dl180g5 on the vmware site:
http://communities.vmware.com/message/1012569#1012569

let me know how it goes, I'm keen on finding out if it works... do you have a standard dl180g5?

Re: ESXi on DL180G5

BenVC - thank you for links

As I can understand the most suspicious hardware "IDE interface Mass storage controller: Intel Corporation 2 port SATA IDE Controller (ICH9) [vmhba0] Class 0101: 8086:2926" - is on compatibility list. Do you think that the problem is in smthg else?

After I change ESXi3.5u2 to ESXi3.5 update 3 180g5 like looks better.
