Enabling 2nd memory board/bus board

Hello,

I have a Proliant DL380 G7 server and I need to enable to the 2nd memory/bus board on the server, I know it's in the BIOS somewhere, but I can not find where. I know I am missing something. Can someone point me where I can find this in the BIOS? I also need to update the BIOS on the server since they are from 2011. Can anyone send me a link to where I can download the lastest update for the BIOS for this server?

Thank You,

Pantonio

Hello,

Please provide the below details to help you better.

1. Server model and type of OS installed

2. How many processors are installed on the server? Please specify the model

3. How many memory modules are installed and how many are you trying to upgrade?

4. When you say enable Memory Board, is that phyisical slot on the motherboard you are referring to?

Re: Enabling 2nd memory board/bus board

Hi Pantonio,

yes, the Bios is not able to read the second memory bus.

1) kindly update the Bios to the latest version.

2) Kindly update all the accessories devices firware to the latest one.

3) once the above done, the will result in the isolation of the Second memory slot issue, if still it is not resolved , the Hardware unit needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps.

Re: Enabling 2nd memory board/bus board

If by the 2nd memory board you mean the dimm slots for the 2nd CPU -- you basically need a CPU in socket 2 to make use of them.

Each CPU can address a maximum of 9 dimms on the dl380 g7 platform. So if you have just 1 CPU you can either upgrade to 2 CPUs or just replace the DIMMs you have for bigger ones (if possible of course).

Quickspecs:

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c04199811

you can find the section devoted to memory starting from p.40

You can find drivers and downloads on the drivers and downloads webpage of course:

www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

and the installation file for the BIOS can be found here:

* windows:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swItemId=MTX_447405fc60a04b2493ae2e4bc4&swEnvOid=4064

* linux:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=4091567&swItemId=MTX_c314c6ed9b6040f1b3e48649d5&swEnvOid=4049

Bear in mind though that the BIOS file is locked and you'd need an HP passport account:

https://hpp12.passport.hp.com/hppcf/createuser.do?lang=en&cc=US&hpappid=sp4ts&applandingpage=https%3A%2F%2Fh20564.www2.hp.com%2Fhpsc%2Fswd%2Fpublic%2Fdetail%3Fsp4ts.oid%3D4091567%26swItemId%3DMTX_447405fc60a04b2493ae2e4bc4%26swEnvOid%3D4064&applandingpage2=https%3A%2F%2Fh20564.www2.hp.com%2Fhpsc%2Fswd%2Fpublic%2Fdetail%3Fsp4ts.oid%3D4091567%26swItemId%3DMTX_447405fc60a04b2493ae2e4bc4%26swEnvOid%3D...

and to then register a server with an active warranty/care pack or SAID to this account to gain access to the file.
