Error Installing DAT drive on SCO Unix

Hi,
I am having a SCO Unix server 5.0.5 running
on HP NetServer LH3, When I try to install
tape drive on the same it get installed
successfully but when I issue command
#tape status
It says
tape: can't open /dev/xct0 : No such device
or addrress.

The output of my sconf -v command is
Stp slha 1 0 3 0

That means it is detecting the device.

The most strange thing is previously the
same machine was running SCO server with
same DAT and it was working fine but after I
formmated and re-installed its not working
please help me.

Thanks
Amit.

Re: Error Installing DAT drive on SCO Unix

Hi,
Use
mknod /dev/xct0 c 46 128 (assuming rStp0)
and then try "tape status" etc.
Then fix by editing /etc/default/tape and changing the
device = /dev/xct0
Please keep a original copy of any file (/etc/default/tape)before editing it as you may require it later.

OR

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Try Using /dev/Stp0,/dev/rct0 etc..,
Try with a simple tar command.
These are some default device file name for tape drive in SCO.
You said earlier it used to work then i guess the erlier was a customized one maybe if this works.
