Error msg when attempting to install 642 array controller on bare system
Connection was refused when attempting to contact 127.0.0.1:2301
This error I get when trying to access the ACU..
found a document relating to this but the solutiuon in there (reboot har har) doesn't help.
Any suggestions?

First possibility: disable proxy
Second possibility: try 127.0.0.1:2381

It always helps when you give us more info (type of server, OS etc..).
My guess is that you installed the SA-642 controller together with the OS drivers and the HP Array Configuration Utility (ACU).
ACU installs default with local logon security only. To change this you have to run the ACU Setup utility again and give remote access.
Note: http://servername:2301 will work as well as https://servername:2381

Like I said, it is a bare system guys. No os no nothing, got new drives and a new controller.
Gotten past that problem now I cannot run smartstart (aargh) error 59. got version 5.10
getting latest version now, and will see what happens.
