Re: Expand Logical Drive

Hello PJ,

sounds like you are working on a SmartArray controller...

It can do striped mirrors (no matter if one calls it RAID 0+1 or RAID 1+0 ;-) What I don't know is if it can do this with an odd number of disk drives - I have seen at least a non-SmartArray controller that could do this.

What you would do is:

- add the new disk drive(s) to the current disk array (expand array)

- the controller will go and re-distribute the data equally over all disks.

- now you should still have your logical drive with the original size and additional free space at the and of the disk array

- next you can extend your logical drive, drawing from the free space or create another logical drive in the same disk array

- assuming that you have extended the logical drive you would make the operating system aware of the additional space. That is left as an execise to you as you didn't say what OS you are using ;-)
