Expand Raid5 on Win2003

Hi.

I've just bought a new hd to expand my array which was running low.
I have expanded the raid, so the drive is now 36.6 gb bigger in windows computer management. Now i need to expand it within windows. I could use the "diskpart.exe" utility, but afaik it denys expanding system partitions (I am extending both data and system).
I've also heard some people crash their array with diskpart, and that is not what i want to achieve here.

Is there anyone who has experience from useng diskpart.exe? Or any other application that can get this job done?

Best Regards
Nicolai K.

Hi, Nicolai !

I used diskpart many times without any problem.
You cannot extend system partition with diskpart.

Anyway, do backup before !

Nicolai:

Is your System and Data on one logical drive? That is, did you present one logical drive from the array and then in windows, create 2 partitions? a C: and a D:(or another letter)? If so, you should still be able to use diskpart to extend the data partition, though I never had the oppurtunity to do so with only one logical drive.

If you have 2 different logical drives, one for your SYSTEM and one for Data, then diskpart should work just fine on the data logical drive and will not work on the system drive. You would need some third party software, something similar to Partition magic (but works with Win2k server).

Here is some info to look at if you have not already...

Also, I have used diskpart on many occasion without any issues (never with a single logical drive though).
