Expanding Drive Space?

Hi,

I have a ML 350 Server running W2k Standard Server OS.

The drives are configured as follows.
3 36.4 GB - raid 5
1 36.4 GB - spare

I added (1) 36.4 GB drive to the array successfully but need to expand the capacity of the Raid 5 array. How is this done?

I can see the raid 5 array (67.85 GB) and the 33.71 GB unallocated space in Disk Manager. How do I expand/add this space to the existing array? Disk type is Basic/NTFS

Thanks

Eric

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

Eric,

Go to the Array Configuration Utility to do the same.
Basically, First you need to EXPAND the array.
& then EXTEND the Logical drive.

You should see the options on the right hand side once you select the array/logical drive.

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

OK,

I extended the array to 104 GB approx with 244 MB unused

Array A with Spare
Logical Drive 104 GB
Unused space 244 MB

utility 6.40

When I check disk manager in Windows, I still have 33.71 of unused space.

How do I utilze this space?

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

Hi Eric,

first you check the OS capabillity, then expand array by adding physical disc to the server and after array expansion you planing logical drive extension.
ACU is proper tool in this situation.

Good luck

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

I physically added the drive to the hot swap bay. In ACU, I added the drive then extended it. I have (1) logical drive 101GB. I exit ACU and open Disk Manager in Windows 2000 server. I see (1) basic disk 68GB and (1) unallocated space 33GB. How do I utilize 33GB? I want to increase the basic drive from 68GB to 101GB. I don't want a seperate partition.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

i think taht you cannot extend logical volume on win 2000 st ed, but you can try using third party tool, or disk part, maybe!

Kind regards,

Re: Expanding Drive Space?

I found instructions to use Diskpart.exe.

I'm all set now.
