Extend Raid5 On DL380 G3
I have a customer having an old DL380 G3 wishing to extend his Raid5 Array.
Situation is as below.
Raid 0 on 2x9.1Gb for OS
Raid 5 on 3x18.2Gb + 1x18.2Gb(Online Spare) for Data.
I haven't got much experience with the G3's, is there a possibility of removing the Online Spare disk as the spare, and extending the Raid5 with it?
Anyone has the steps to proceed?
Thanks

Re: Extend Raid5 On DL380 G3
Then the raid controller must have the BBWC option (battery cache) to be able to do what you are planning. If it does, you can expand the existing array online.
You need to
1. Unconfigure the hot spare drive
2. Capacity expansion (add the drive to the raid5 array)
3. Logical drive expansion (or create new logical drives)
4. OS partiton expansion (or create new OS partitions)

Re: Extend Raid5 On DL380 G3
Just another question.
You've said that it is possible to perform the expansion Online if there is a BBWC attached to the controller.
In the event that there is no BBWC, is it then totally impossible to perform the expansion, or is it possible to do it in Offline Mode.
cheers for replying.
