External Hard Drive Issue

I have a customer that has an HP server with a gigabit ethernet card. They have recently added a Maxtor One Touch 80 GB USB external drive. The problem is that when the server is booted up with this drive attached, it will hang when it tries to load the NIC driver. The driver is Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet boot agent V2.2.7.
If the USB drive is disconnected, then the server will boot normally.

Has anyone had this problem before or have any suggestions for resolving it?

Try to find latest System ROM and Update if necessary, is not always possibly to use third Party HW successfully, some server needing latest ROM flash
