I get an error saying unrecognized device, is there anything I need to do to attach a SCSI tape device to the back of this server that I am missing?
Thanks

SolutionDo you have "both" SCSI channels in use internally? Do you have the drive cage duplexed?
SCSI devices can NOT be supported on the external SCSI port and the internal SCSI port 1, concurrently.
Do you have proper termination on the tape drive?

Re: External Tape Drive
Here is the error I get (paraphrased)
AN EXTERNAL SCSSI DEVICE CAN NOT EXIST WITH THE INTERNAL SCSSI DEVICES CONFIGURED ON THIS SCSSI ADAPTER.
The tape drive is terminated, the internal drives are on SCSI port 2.
A external tape drive is supported on this box, could it be just the scsi ID?
Thanks

Re: External Tape Drive
Alternatively, what ID did you use on the tape drive? Try setting it to ID 3. It may be conflicting with the ID of the controller.

Re: External Tape Drive
On the DL380 the External SCSI port is SCSI Port 1 and there is an internal SCSI port 1 that has a SCSI cable connected to it with a termination, I Disconnected the internal cable and the tape drive was recognized and my server now boots up
all works well :)
Thanks!
