External Tape drive installation issues.

I have an External HP Storageworks 448 Ultrium Tape drive that I want to install on HP ML 370 G5 server. It has a SCSI interface and didn't come with any installation CD. How do I go about installing this device as its not plug and play.
Thanks.

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

See

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/ISS/Detail/16-0029-0110.html#CONTROLLERS

The HP ProLiant ML370 G5 does not have a suitable integrated SCSI controller for connecting the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448 SCSI . Please use one of the following compatible HBAs:

412911-B21 - HP SC11Xe PCIe Ultra320 SCSI HBA (Internal/External)

374654-B21 - HP Single Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X HBA G2

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

if this is not compartible, the server is not suppose to recognise the hardware in the first place. When the server is booting, the Linux OS detects the devives connectd to the server and lists them, it shows Ultirium 2 which means its detecting the tape drive.

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

On this (bad) picture it looks like a normal single channel SCSI HBA - this should work, but better check the product number of this HBA.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

The only SCSI device installed on the server is : Device name-LSI Logic/Symbios Logic 53c1030 PCI-X. Fusion-MPT Dual Ultra 320. This is when you check the devices on the server.

Did it look like it?

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

The server is in Production now and the product number will be checked and sent to you at the close of business today. tf it happens that the SCSI card is the right one, what other things have to be done before the tape drive becomes functional?

Thanks for your assistance.

Re: External Tape drive installation issues.

I would do the firmware on the server, controller, and tape drive.
