Firmware CD 7.50

I've tried to get my usb key version of the
latest firmware cd to update a dl385 g1's ilo
to 1.87 but ..... the appropriate hp page says
drop the cp006786.scexe to the swpackages
folder and run the update.

This doesn't pickup v1.87, only v1.84 that is
already on the iso image.

Any thoughts ?

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

John,

My only suggestion is when you initially downloaded the file. As it states on the download page.

When you right click on the file and click on Save AS you will get the pop up box. At the bottom of this box there is two drop down menus:

1) File name:
2) Save as type: (This must be changed to all files from the default of Text Document)

If step two is not done properly the cp006786.scexe file will likely be saved as cp006786.scexe.txt or something like this. This obviously will not work.

I checked the contents of PSP 7.60 which is now available on HTTP but has been on FTP for a few days and this cp006786.scexe is not in its repository so it will not help in this case either if the above steps were followed.

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

that was my first thought (a hidden .txt extension), but no. It's just .scexe.
When the firmware cd application builds it's
catalogue during the discovery phase I've
spotted it reading cp006786.scexe, so it's
there, but still only 1.84 is offered as an
upgrade !!!!

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

John,
I'll take a look at why the 1.87 iLO FW is not being updated by the FWCD.

If you can do updates online, you can use the Windows or Linux online versions of the iLO FW component and launch hpsum.exe (Windows) or hpsum (Linux) from the \compaq\swpackages directory on the USB key.

If you still have issues, you can manually run the online component from the USB key.

You might try the 7.60 FWCD image because there was a fix we put in to address a problem when flash components were added to the USB key from a Windows workstation. The problem we fixed related to the case of the filename of the component being changed when downloaded to the key from Windows (ie cp006488.scexe became CP006488.SCEXE) and the key then used in an offline environment.

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

I can run the online (cp006787.exe) from the
key once windows is booted without a hitch.
i can put the 6786 in the folder on the cd
and run the hpsum ok, I can put the 6786 in
the F: that's created by the key utility and
then tell the firmware app to use a
"supplemental" which it says it's found and
supposedly updated the list, but the list
doesn't update to reflect 1.87.

Also - checked 7.60 and the iso doesn't
contain the 1.87 files !

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

The 1.87 iLO FW did not make the CD. We lcoked down content on the CD to complete final testing and after we completed the testing and while the CD was working its way to the web, v1.87 was built and released. It was just a matter of bad timing as to why it didn't make the CD.

I've attached a new master_dependencies.xml file to this e-mail that will be posted to the web in a few days. Place this file in the \compaq\swpackages directory on the USB key and it will resolve the problem with the 1.87 ILO FW not showing up in HPSUM.

Let me know if you have other issues.

Re: Firmware CD 7.50

OK, when booted via ilo's virtual device
the key won't boot !!!, boot the server and
use virtual device, then run from windows
I get a browse CD on windows 2000 but not
on windows 2003.

I can run the hpsum and update the firmware
from windows, so the master_dependencies.xml
works perfectly for windows 2003.

However - the hpsum version doesn't show the
1.87 firmware, even though it's in the right
folder (that's cp006787.exe), it only shows
1.84 (cp006487.exe)
