Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
Hello
I made a case due to freeze of my servers (ping OK, ssh KO). HP told me to upgrade the BIOS and ILO2
HP gave me link and i downloaded these files SP53315.exe and CP013601.scexe.
What to do with these files ? How to burn the CD (under windows?)?
After with the CD burnt , what to do ? reboot the server with the CD inside?
How long it will take to ugrade the firmware (outtage duration)?
ILO2 can be upgraded with the ILO i saw this in the ILO menu, how to do this ? juts upload the exe files i downloaded?
Thanks

Hi,
Do refer to the Installation instructions provided within the file once you download the extract the exe file.
I have attached a zip file in this post for your help, do extract the zip file and go through the contents.
Thanks.
I work for HPE.

Re: Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
Hello
I downloaded (thanks to HP) a scexe file yo ugrade my frimware.
Sever:ProLiant BL460c G1
current version:I15 2008.08.04 (B) (24 Sep 2008)
new version:I15 2011.05.02 (A) (20 Jul 2011)
So quiet easy to follow...
But if i want to rollback (downgrade) to the previouse version (2008.08.04) i found only a CPxxx.exe file not a scexe.
And in the realase note of the new version i read that downgrade will not be possible except if you follow:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&objectID=c02838375
But in this link they refer to scexe file which is impossible to find for this version (2008.08.04)
What is strange is that i found the scexe file for an older version :2006.09.05-(20-Sep-2006)
question:
What is the best (sur) way to rollback in case of (tell me if this upgrade is risky) ?
Thanks

Re: Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
If you really really want to roll back (why???), just switch the redundant BIOS in RBSU.
Here is the complete list (all *.scexe):
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Thanks
it is not me who want to rollback :)
just to set up a work order for my customer and a rolback section ....
Is it better to upgrade the BIOS 1st or the ILO2?

Re: Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
I prefer to use SPP to do firmware updates:
https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=spp_2013.02.0
create a bootable USB thumb drive and let the server boot from it.
It will update BIOS, ILO, etc ... all at once.
Consider to check the blade enclosure for needed updates too!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
Thanks
because this issue is so annoying my server lost their ssh capabilities....(ping OK)
for example there is a new one 2 days ago in this case only a reboot isworking....even if i connect directly to the server (or remote console) it asks for the login and afetr it hangs .....nothing:
[root@admin0 ~]# ssh -vv bd2
OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7a Feb 19 2003
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: Applying options for *
debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to bd2 [xx.yy.uu.ii] port 22.
debug1: Connection established.
debug1: permanently_set_uid: 0/0
debug1: identity file /root/.ssh/identity type -1
debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----BEGIN'
debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----END'
debug1: identity file /root/.ssh/id_rsa type 1
debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----BEGIN'
debug2: key_type_from_name: unknown key type '-----END'
debug1: identity file /root/.ssh/id_dsa type 2
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
You means that the upgrade will not work if the enclosure is not updated?
Or it is better to upgrade the enclosure at the same time?

Re: Firmware upgrade ProLiant BL460c E5405 2.0GHz ??
I forgot to tell you that there are old servers "ProLiant BL460c G1" not G7 or G8
and it is Linux not windows can you the usb key for a G1 in linux?.
I read this is it right with SPP?:
Reboot is not required after installation for updates to take effect and hardware stability to be maintained.
