Firmware upgrade steps

We have a DL580 and prior to the OS install (windows 2003R2) I updated the firmware to the latest available from HP. We then installed the OS and apps etc...

Another admin is now stating that the firmware now needs to be reinstalled. He's stating that you need to reapply the firmware after the OS install which is not per my understaing of a firmware update.

Can someone comment on this?

Re: Firmware upgrade steps

Well, I think he's mistaken. HP recommends that the latest PSP (ProLiant Support Pack) be reapplied after the OS install or any Service Packs applied to the OS. That way the HP drivers are in use (and intact).

Firmware usually done in offline mode (boot directly from CD/DVD). The PSP is found on the latest SmartStart DVD and can be accessed through the OS.

Re: Firmware upgrade steps

I agree with you on firmware and PSP's.
From my understanding a firmware update, updates the system Bios, hard drives , etc.. and has nothing to do with the OS.
HP's PSP's update drivers.

Re: Firmware upgrade steps

Exactly, don't mix up firmware and OS drivers.

Hope this helps!

Re: Firmware upgrade steps

A modest remark - I have seen driver bundles updating firmware too, but never in the Proliant+windows world.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
