Future Raid5 on DL380/G6?

All:
I have a DL380/G6 (516919-B21) purchased with six 1TB SAS (3.5) disks. A 512 WWBC option was not ordered, due to an oversight.

My question: Can I create a logical drive with 4 disks as Raid 1 + 0 for 1.8TB of space to start off and when the WWBC option shows up, install option and migrate to a Raid 5 configuration without data loss? I know to back up server before beginning, and with my experence with other SA controllers, this is possible, but wanted to verify (double check) my thinking.

Thanks,

Louis

Re: Future Raid5 on DL380/G6?

hi
yes you can but this will be done offline by booting from smart start cd ,

ascache and battery are required to do this via HP tools when the oS is running

all spare numbers etc are here

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13234_div/13234_div.html

tip if it is the matter of a couple of days i would wait as it takes circa 15 min per gig to move data thats at the best sped with no interupts from end users..

This is how we thank each other in the forum

Re: Future Raid5 on DL380/G6?

Thanks for your reply....
I have a follow-up question,

In the past I have migrated from Raid 1+0 to Raid5 with OS up and running. This was done with SA5i and 6i controllers (512MB BBWB cache). Can this controller not do this on the fly?

BTW- check my profile...I always award points ;)...

Re: Future Raid5 on DL380/G6?

Louis this can do it on the fly but needs cache and battery to juggle the data..when the os is running..

but as it is it can do it offline
