Greater than 80GB drives in DL320 G3?

The Proliant DL320 G3 only officially supports 80GB IDE drives. But of course, IDE drives are available in sizes far above this. Could I put, say, a 300GB hard drive in my DL320 and would it work? What I mean is, is the 80GB limitation truly a BIOS or hardware limitation or is it just the officially supported limit? I'd really like to be able to use larger drives. Thanks!!

i believe 80GB is the official support maximum drive capacity for DL320. but who is to stop u from having 300GB as long as u r able to operate it without HP assistance.

by the way, is this server on maintenance or still having warranty, if so, stick with the 80GB.

Thanks for the responses. I know that the spec sheet says 80GB is the max supported, but what I don't know is if there is a true hardware limitation to this. I guess I should just see if I can find one, plug it in, and see if it works.

The only problem would be if the system BIOS does not support 48-bit LBA and it would not accept a drive larger than 137GB. This is really what I'm trying to find out - is there a hardware limitation, or has anyone tried this already?

All of our current ProLiant servers have active warranties, but this would be for a potential new server.
