H2 find serial and product number remotely?

Is there a simple way to find these two key informations from any HP/Compaq server system?

I need to make and inventory of boxes scattered all over the world and find out their warranty status amongst other things so I can't really go to each and every one of them to have a look...

The boxes aren't necessarily installed with Smartstart or any CPQ/HP utilities at all. All of them are Win2K och Win2K3.

Re: H2 find serial and product number remotely?

Bengt,

you could use the folowing methods i.e.

- for the server serialnumber if it is a Proliant, use the iLO port which is integrated on most Proliants or use the RILOE/RILOE-II if you have that card
installed. In the system status, under Server Status, their is a field called :

"Server ID" that shows the serialnumber.
The section under "Host Platform" also shows the server model i.e.
Proliant ML370 G3

- If the Insight Management agents are installed, go to the system home page and under the Management Agents information, Asset Control their is also the serialnumber.

- to get the serialnumber on the commandline, try the attached script. It might require you to allow this type of script to run first (policies/security settings on w2k3 i.e.)

Re: H2 find serial and product number remotely?

Thanks for the tips guys. ILO is only standard in G3-systems and AFAIK it must also be configured with an IP-address to be accesible and this has not been done on the systems in question so unfortunatly this is not a possible way. Most of the systems don't have HP/Compaq management software installed either so... I will try the script that you attached during the day and see if it works! Thanks!

Any other ideas considering the additional information above?

run 7.20 (along there is newer one available)
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21600.html

Installation doesn't require reboot or any agents
If you have file downloaded run 60 second and you get Serial number

From Text report see

SUBSYSTEM INFORMATION:

Chassis Serial Num: xxxxxxxxx

Re: H2 find serial and product number remotely?

Script works like a charm, testade the ADU also but still all I get is serial number which the script also does without having to install anything. But this still leaves us with the model# unknown (if I didn't miss anything). No WMI-entry for that? Any other HP Util that could be installed or ran without reboot that could give me this?

Re: H2 find serial and product number remotely?

Hi Bengt,

try this one, i added the server model.
So it now provides :

- manufacturer
- serialnumber
- BIOS version
- server model and generation (Gx)

This should work fine on most Proliants, I only tried it on some G3 models running w2k3
