HD Failure in Disk Array

HD Failure in Disk Array

We are experiencing numerous hard drive failures in a couple of our disk arrays. They are connected to some DL580's. All the failed drives appear to be manufactured around the same time (JAN/Feb 05). These failures are only happening on two arrays while the third one has not seen a failure. Could this be a case of a bad run of drives or could it be the arrays themselves causing these multiple failures. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HD Failure in Disk Array

1# Are you up to the most recent firmware of the array?
2#It alway possible it a bad bunch, was it baught at the same time, if yes then it is very possible, but if not at the same time probabile not a bad bunch.
3#Did you try to transfert the hard drive the array that is working fine to see if it array or hard drive porblem?

Re: HD Failure in Disk Array

Thanks for the response,

The firmware is fully updated.

All the drives were manufactured in the same week. However there is another full array with the same drives not experiencing any problems

Once the drives have failed they no longer work anywhere.

Re: HD Failure in Disk Array

That is what I thought. But why do they not fail in the other array, it is also using the same disks. I have had over 10 failures on the first two arrays but none so far on the third.
