HD partitioning

If you create a new (first) partition where does it end up on the hard drive?
I want to make sure that my O.S. and swap end up on the outside (fast part) of the hard drive. Are partitions created from the outside to inside on the other way around?

Re: HD partitioning

IMHO this is just like hunting a myth ...

Hope this helps!

Re: HD partitioning

Wobbe,

Is this an array of disks or a single disk?

Re: HD partitioning

It started out as a single disk for my linux laptop at home. I had this theory that the swap should be on the fastest part of the disk next to / and the rest schould be used for /home. But now I'm also interested in the performance of raid systems for my work.

Re: HD partitioning

Even if you search for detailed information about a almost 10 year old drive you'll find something like Track and cylinder skewing technology and similar technologies for reducing latency and boost performance. Saying this you will never know exactly where your data physically is on that drive - now under control of a RAID controller more cache and more smart technology comes into play - so the beginning may be at the end and vice versa - don't expect the middle of the drive exactly in the middle ... ;-)

Hope this helps!
