Have you run the Array Diagnostic utility?

Re: HELP ME! DL380 G5 WS2003 64BIT VERY VERY SLOW PERF.

Are there other processes accessing the disk? Is it slow because something else is using the disk or is the problem hardware related?

Re: HELP ME! DL380 G5 WS2003 64BIT VERY VERY SLOW PERF.

No hardware problem.
I've omitted to say that there are only 1 partition of 880 GBytes.
HP technician said me last friday that probably the lack of performance is due to this fact: 1 single partition of 880 GBytes; but this is what he sees on hp utilities diagnostic logs, not an official words from hp.
I understand that 1 singole partition is not the best configuration but P400i controller can manage 1 zettabyte partition (1.000.000 of terabyte) so i can think how it is possible that system freeze for 15/20 seconds randomly because of this.

Re: HELP ME! DL380 G5 WS2003 64BIT VERY VERY SLOW PERF.

I can guarantee you it's not the bloody partition.

It sounds like you've got some sort of hardware problem; likely cache-related. Possibly cache on one of the drives or maybe the RAID controller itself.

HOWEVER...

It could also be a driver.

You could rule out the driver by installing a 32-bit version of Windows and checking performance again. If the problem remains, then you're looking at hardware; if the problem goes away you're looking at a 64-bit driver problem.

BTW make sure your firmware is up to date on all drives and the controller. Download the latest HP Firmware Maintenance CD, boot from it and update any out-of-date firmware on the system.

Re: HELP ME! DL380 G5 WS2003 64BIT VERY VERY SLOW PERF.

hi Stefan,

Performance Issue are often related to controller write cache, hard drive cache, operating system caching, stripe sizes and the number of hard drives involved.
When you're using SAS Controllers with SATA Disks, the SATA hard drive caches are disabled!! I know there is somewhat to enable the write cache temporarily (please contact HP for details) but the best solution is to use a SATA Controller or SAS Drives

please let me know if you're using SATA Disks on SAS Array Controller

Re: HELP ME! DL380 G5 WS2003 64BIT VERY VERY SLOW PERF.

First of all thank you to all of you.
Firmwares and drivers are all updated.
8 hard disk are SAS (7 in raid 1 in stbdy).
The machine is serving users so it's not possible to test it with 32 bit os.
Anyway thank you very much; i hope HP found something to resolve the problem.
