I have DL 380 G5 server with three sas hdd 2.5" of 146 gb. One of its need to replace. Can I swap it in running conditoion of O.S with RAID 5. I have win 2003 os in my server? I try to replace it, it gives an error. Then I place the original HDD, Server recover the HDD. But I do not understand why it gives an error as it is hot swapable. Can any one help me ?

Re: HOTSWAPABLE SAS HDD

Isn't the error message indicating that it is rebuilding to a new disk?

What is "error" and where is it comming from?

Re: HOTSWAPABLE SAS HDD

hi,

if you have a RAID5 configuration, you can loose one disk, so if you have a one failed drive, them remove it from the bay, them wait 1 minute, place there a new drive and the rebuild process should be start automatically, without any problem. The failed disk will be rebuild from the parity.

The OS see only Logical disk in raid should be around 300 GB.
