I have by mistake set the wrong pass to Admin user account of iLO (disabled other users before that). It looks like I have typed in the wrong password twice os something like that.
Now I woul like to reset the iLO password to default, is it possible to do? I have a phisical access to the server, I can also connect to serial port, etc.
Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
Open the top cover and look at the underside of the cover. There should be diagrams of different components and settings. Look for the iLo section and you should be able to handle it from there.
I know it is like that on the Blade servers, but I have not ever seen a dl160, so I could be totally wrong.

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
Also in the server documentation (HP DL 160 G5) I can't find any reference to something like this.

SolutionTo reset the password for the lights-out 100
1. Create a DOS bootable disk (floppy or USB key)
2. Download the IPMItool from this link: http://www.intel.com/design/servers/ipmi/ipmi_tool.htm
3. Copy the IPMItool.exe to the bootable disk
4. Boot the server using the bootable disk
5. Run "ipmitool.exe 20 18 47 03 02 61 64 6d 69 6e 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00"
6. Now your password should reset back to "admin"
Note that your user name is not changed, so you need to use the same user name.
I hope this helps.

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
Download HPONCFG.exe
stick the exe in the root of C and then goto the command prompt and type hponcfg /reset
the ilo card will reset itself to factory defaults and you will be able to use the password thats on the machine to log in.
I'm sorry i cant find a link to the above software maybe someone else has it.
I have attached the exe if you trust me :D its ok scan it first though incase it gets intercepted.
Good Luck
Marcus

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sm2user.dll NOT FOUND.
As far as I searched, it seams that the utilities that work for other servers, are NOT supported on DL 160 G5 becouse this server does not support a proliant pack, and does not support the HP insight managers.

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
By default the username and password for LO100 management card is admin/admin.
As the user here has forgot/kept wrong password, the only way to get it reset is to reflash the firmware of BMC controller.

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
I have tried first with to flash the BMC controller firmware, as recomended by Srinivas, but unfortunatly I'm having trouble downloading this file from the hp support ftp. I have tried from different PCs and networks, it allways gives me file not found errors or some strange page when I try to download.
Anyway, thanks once again, and best regards!
Zoltan.

Re: HP DL160 G5, iLO Password Reset
The ipmitool method described above also worked for me with a DL180 G6.
Many thanks.
