HP DL180G6 and NC523 SFP 10GB Card
Hi,
I am using a HP Proliant DL180G6 and want to add a 10GB NIC to the machine.
The quickspecs of the NC523 lists the DL180G6 as a supported hardware
But when the NC523 NIC is installed the server hangs while booting.
I can see the BIOS of the NIC starting, but it does not report the Ports.
The card itself is fine as I can install it to a ML110 G7 or an ML350G6 and it works fine.
I tried it with two different DL180G6 and both behave the same way.
I even upgraded and downgraded the BIOS of the server but the behavior does not change.
Any Ideas what I can do?
I tried to downgrade the NIC but I was not successful, any ideas how it can be done?
Thank you for any comments
Andreas

Re: HP DL180G6 and NC523 SFP 10GB Card
Hi,
Does the server hang while booting into OS or it hangs while performing POST?
Did you try the card in different slot if available?
If the server hangs while booting into OS, see if the OS is compatible with the card.
Thank You!

Re: HP DL180G6 and NC523 SFP 10GB Card
Hi,
the server was hanging while performing POST.
It looks like the BIOS of the NC523 is not working correctly, because only parts of the "normal" BIOS messages are printed on the screen.
For example normaly you will see the connected port with port number and MAC address, but this was missing. But the message like Press Ctrl+Q for Setup was printed.
I had to go back to an older firmware version for that card which was available on Firmware DVD 10.10
then the server booted up fine again.
The BIOS version of the server itself does not matter.
The bad thing is that the newer firmware version for the NC523 SFP is listed on the HP support webside for the DL180G6.
And there are not many 10GB nics available for the DL180G6
Regards,
Andreas

Re: HP DL180G6 and NC523 SFP 10GB Card
Hi,
Try these settings in BIOS if available.
1.) BIOS - Power Management Options - Change PCI Express Generation 2.0 Support to Force PCI-E Generation 2.
2.) BIOS - Change HP Power Profile to Maximum Performance.
Thank You!
