HP DL360 G7 optional DVD drive

Hi,

I have a shiny new DL360 G7 with the optional DVD drive, part number 532066-B21. It doesn't fit due to the little metal bit at the rear of the drive, and the installation guide appears to be for a G6 server. There is also no way to run the SATA cable to the motherboard on a G7 without ripping out some metal on the hard drive backplane. Has anyone been able to install this part in a G7? The part number was taken from the Quick Specs so I'm sure I have the right part.

I have not tried it myself, but have you read the userguide?
It's pretty good.

I have read that guide. The DVD install screenshots are from the G6 I am fairly certain. That diagram at the top of page 52, not a G7, there is a big bit of metal in the way in the G7 that prevents the SATA cable being run in that way. Hard to put into words, but the drive just doesn't fit.

Odd.

I tried to search on the Option number, and it list the G6 only.

But if I search on the spare part numbers for the DVD tray and drive.

Both the G6 and G7 is listet.

Can't you route the cable another way?

Nope, there is a metal backplane welded to the back of the harddrive backplane. In any case, the drive itself just doesn't fit in the slot because of the metal bit jutting out the back. I have a feeling they just included the G6 DVD in the G7 Quick Specs but it simply doesn't fit. Time to order an external drive I think.

Do you have the optional HDD backplane?
=HDD's at the Top?

Chekked backplane p/n's in part surfer, its the same in G6 and G7.

as mentioned. Read Page 49.
Optical drive is no go, if you got the optional, upper backplane installed.

Thanks a lot, that looks to be my exact problem. I didn't order the extra hard drive backplane but on closer look at the base model I ordered (579239-001) it includes support for 8 drives, and hence comes with the extra backplane. Good spot, and thanks again for the help.

If you don't use the upper backplane.
Then you could remove it.
