HP DL360G4p Memory problem
Specs :
Kingston Dimm 2GB DDR2 PC2-3200 400Mhz ECC
(KVR400D2E3/2G)
But the DL360G4p won't boot with these sticks installed. amber/red lights.
I thought the specs met the requirements ?

Re: HP DL360G4p Memory problem
Be sure to use HP-branded memory in your server. The first step in troubleshooting your issue is to remove all but two sticks and attempt to boot. Continue adding sticks in pairs until you can determine which is causing the problem.
Good luck!

Re: HP DL360G4p Memory problem
So it appears that either all sticks are bad or they're not compatible.
I'm wondering what the difference is between these Kingston sticks and "genuine" HP ones.

Re: HP DL360G4p Memory problem
Neither does the one that your link is pointing to.
How do you know it has to be (un)buffered ?

Re: HP DL360G4p Memory problem
Hmmm....Which ones did you reference?

LMGTFY:
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/partsinfo.asp?root=us&LinkBack=&ktcpartno=KVR400D2E3/2G&id=4
Search Results for: KVR400D2E3/2G
Description: 2GB 400MHz DDR2 ECC CL3 DIMM
Detailed Specifications: Standard 256M X 72 ECC 400MHz 240-pin *Unbuffered* DIMM (DDR2, 1.8V, CL3)
HP's memory is registered:
From the link that was posted earlier:

Google "343056-B21 site:hp.com" reveals several links with specs:
HP 2GB *Registered* PC2-3200 2x1GB DDR2 Memory Kit (343056-B21)
But hey then again I know nothing. I take it you do know the differences.

Really? You might want to look again before making comments like that in here. May I suggest the Forum FAQ:

Re: HP DL360G4p Memory problem
I was simply stating that the link that you provided does not state that you need buffered memory, neither do most HP links that show the memory specs for this type of server.
It DOES say that it needs to be registered, but then again, I thought registered vs unregistered ECC was interchangeable, as long as all the sticks were the same.
I Guess I was wrong.
