HP DL360p G8 raid speed

Server: HP DL360p G8

Raid: Smart Array P420i/2GB+FBWC

HDD: 4x512GB SSD Samsung 840 Pro (RAID0 stripesize 256kb)

OS: Windows 2008 R2 64Bit

Hi,

Problem is that read/write operations are really slow and windows hangs after some time for some seconds/minutes. Tried many differnt settings via HP SSA but still no clue why speed drop so rapidly?

Re: HP DL360p G8 raid speed

What settings do you have configured for that array?
I'm not sure OEM drives [even being SSD] are supported) on hp server controllers ...

I tried many different configs, stripesizes and so... Don't know what's best config to get max speeds and no freezes...

Does this array contains the logicalunit of your system drive?
Can you dump the config of your cntroller??

I attached a log file, if you ment that? Well config set to standard config, SSD Smart Path is enabled, but log says cache is not configured...

Re: HP DL360p G8 raid speed

I'm not sure that controller supports those SSD's out of the box, but let's try this:

Your array is not initialized. Do´n't know why

But let's try to enable caching
Make sure you have latest HP SSA cli (Smart Storage Admnistrator cli ) installed.
Open a commandr prompt on hpssacli.exe location and type these commands in sequence:

set target controller slot=0
modify drivewritecache=enable

then do a :

show config detail

and post the result here

Re: HP DL360p G8 raid speed

Is that server on production yet?

Can you destroy that array and create a raid5 and post the config ?

Maybe the controller detects the ssds are fast enough to disable caching in raid 0 ??

You can also try to force the acche ratio to change:

set controller slot=0

modify cacheratio=50/50

and see if the cache sets to enable and the ratio stays 50% write 50% read ...

Re: HP DL360p G8 raid speed

Seems that the samsung 840 doesn't have good compatibility with the p410i raid.. If anyone has an idea let me know, so far i don't know..., changing raid level slow speed, changing stripe size slow speed...
