HP DL380 G5 memory options
Hi,
Quick question for you guys. Does the HP DL380 G5 support 4Rx8 memory? I.e. does it support quad rank FBDIMM?
I have 4x4GB Hynx 4Rx8 667Mhz FBDIMM here and I need to know if I can use it in a DL380 G5.
When I look at the quick specs and memory options it doesnt seem to be supported, but the company that is selling the server says it is. Anybody any idea?
Overview of the quicksepcs: 9http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12477_na/12477_na.html#Memory)

4 GB FBD PC2-5300 2 x 2 GB Dual Rank Kit

Re: HP DL380 G5 memory options
DL380G5 is based on Intel's 5000P chipset - the datasheet for MCH
says nothing about quad-rank DIMM support.
I suggest try before you buy, if possible, since it may not start in server, or be only partially visible to chipset.

Re: HP DL380 G5 memory options
Hi LiamX,
Have you confirmed that this memory will work/or not ?
I just bought 32GB of RAM (and it is 4Rx4) for this server and I am worrying that I did mistake.
Would you be able to tell me if you tried it in the server ?
Thank you.

Re: HP DL380 G5 memory options
DL380 G5 supports only single rank and quad rank, the reason being server supports maximum of 8Gb in single slot which is a dual ran, anything more than 8Gb will usually be quadrank fbdimms and server doesnt support 16gb stick and no quad rank fbdimms for this server. Hope this has helped

Re: HP DL380 G5 memory options
Hi Goutham_Sabala,
The Dims are 8GB 4Rx4 5300F DDR2 dimms. The problem was that there are quad Rank but not over the 8GB limit.
So I wasn't sure if the quad rank was a show stopper.
Thank you

Yes, you should be able to use 8 x 8GB kits.
