HP DL380 G6 P410i array Ubuntu 10.10

Did anyone succeded in installing Ubuntu server 10.10 on a HP DL380 G6 with a P410i array ??

I have REALLY slow HDD performance even during installation and i dont know where to start: 1.04 MB /sec read spead !!!!!!

I have two 300GB G6 SAS 10k discks mirrored on a RAID controlled by the array.

Performance that slow sounds like either a driver issue or a failure in the hardware. Are you using an HP driver for that controller?

Hi Terry, thank you for your reply.

I didn't install any driver, i have just configured the RAID from the array controller setup, then insert the Ubuntu 10.10 CD and did the step by step installation, the partitioning took more time than it should and then the entire installation took like 5x times the normal time.

Is it possible for you to install another operating system (i.e. Windows 2008) and see if the same problems arise?

Doing this way will discard, or not, driver problems.

I will try to update BIOS and firmware to avoid reinstalling everything, then if the problem persists i will try with windows.

I have a similary problem.

I have slow performance even during installation, the best example is the formatting ( 5 hours for a volume of 1.5TB !!)

The Operating system is Red Hat Enterprise 5.5 64bits.

This problem occurs only with the configuration DL380 G6 and P410i array controller. I have tested six configuration
HP DL380 G6 (8Gb to 64 GB) and a raid5 of 6 or 8 disks ( Disk SAS 300GB 10K, one disk used as spare )

The same installation on a DL380 G5 with P400 array controller works fine, the formatting takes 20min max

SOLVED:

Forget about using this server under Linux without cache on the array controller. I didnt know but the standard version of the DL380 came without cache.

I brought the 512Mb BBWC upgrade and all my problems gone.
