HP DL380 G6 + P800 Controller + MSA60 what is the max bandwidth ?

Hello,

following it´s not 100 percent clear for me. We expand our network to 10Gigabit. We would like to buy a new HP DL380 G6 with a MSA60. There will be a 10Gbit Network card inside. But i read that the MSA60 offer´s 3Gbit only. My question:

Is there another MSA which offer´s more than 3Gbit ? Or is there any possibility to give the MSA more bandwidth with a second controller or anything like that ?

Normally one external port of the P800 is connected to the MSA enclosures. However recently HP has added dual domain support for the P800 with the MSA60 and MSA70.

Now for added speed you can look at the 6Gb enclosures D2000. The D2600 and D2700 are the 6Gb counterparts of the MSA60 and MSA70.

Network speed is not the same as SCSI speed(serial scsi)
as you mentioned, MSA60 speed is 3 Gb/s SAS host connectivity

Out of curiousity, which 10 Gbit/s Ethernet NIC do you intend to use, and what would be your definition of "acceptable" performance transferring data through it?

I didnâ t notice the D2000 Series. The bandwidth is fine, but I see the max size of the hard disk is 600GB and not 1TB like the MSA60 hard disk. But I will take a look at it. Thank you.

What exactly do you mean ? For my understanding. The server itself will be attached with 10Gbit to the network. But the MSA will be attached with 3Gbit to the server. We will lost 7Gbit bandwidth. Does i´m right or wrong ?

We want to use the HP NC522SFP 10GbE Gigabit card.

See above. Our goal is to get the max bandwidth from the attached MSA. The network card has 10Gbit. So the MSA should have nearly 10Gbit too.

If you go with the P800/MSA60 you are restricted by the 3Gb disk interface but you can take advantage of the dual domain support and double the interfaces over the same amount of storage.

If you go with the P411/D2600 you have 6Gb disk interface but there is no mention of dual domain support.

So P800/MSA60/dualdomain/3Gb is equivalent to P411/D2600/singledomain/6Gb.

If dual domain becomes available in the P411 you will have an advantage over the P800.

Also regardless of controller and links to storage, the physical disks will only get anywhere near these figures for sustained sequential read, which is quite an unusual pattern in a server environment. Large scale video editing perhaps.

For example EqualLogic quote their iSCSI SAN stuff at 170 IOPs per drive, 16 drives is hence 2,720 IOPs, at 8K block size that's only 21 MB/s or ~200Mbps in network terms, even at 64K block 174 MB/s or ~1.5Gbps.
