I have one unit of Proliant server model DL380 G6 configure with raid 1 on 2x500GB HDD. I've also set the max boot partition size to 4GB. What is the different between 4GB and 8GB boot partition size? Do you the manual on the boot partition size?
Regards,
Chui

SolutionThe size here comes into play at many levels. The logical disk size, the OS partition size, the filesystem size etc.
The boot partiton size would also be a funtion of the OS. What is the OS on this server?
4GB and 8GB were limits at older windows versions such as early XP and NT releases.
I don't think with 500GB disks you will hit any of the limits with the newer OSes.http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1306223

Re: HP DL380 G6 Proliant Server max boot partition size
Currently the server is running on Wondow Server 2008 R2 on 64bit.
I read the hp forum saying the enable max boot (gives 8GB boot partition at 63 sectors per track) or leave it disabled (4 GB boot partition at 32 sectors per track).
What is the different between 63 sectors per track and 32 sector per track?
Is it the window 2008 64bit os required 63 sectors per track or the window 2003 32 bit os required 32 sectors per track.

Re: HP DL380 G6 Proliant Server max boot partition size
Most hard disks understand several different CHS geometries as far as cylinders/tracks and sectors.
There actual physical disk geometry is fixed and the disk provides a translation mechanism on the geometry that you choose in the BIOS. This is done so that with more sectors you need to have fewer tracks and there is a limit on the number of tracks.

I think the 4GB and 8GB limits are a thing of the past.http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:a_nXsMG5oSsJ:download.microsoft.com/download/e/6/3/e63cf2f6-7f71-450b-8e4a-dace88e99456/readme.htm+boot+partition+size+windows+server+2008&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&lr=lang_el|lang_en
