HP DL380 G6 add processors

I have two DL380 G6 servers, both with a single Quad-core processor and 6 GB RAM. I would like to combine the hardware and create an 8-core server with 12 GB RAM (and them add more RAM). When I added the second processor to one of the servers, it would not boot. Blank screen. Are there any configuration changes I need to make prior to adding the second processor? I have added a picture of the processor in case you need info on it. Both processors are exactly the same.

Thank you!

Re: HP DL380 G6 add processors

Hi,

Please refer to the server QuickSpecs.

Note the following changes when adding second processor:
One processor models include four fans. Two processor models include six fans.
There are three (3) channels per processor; six (6) channels per server
Do not install DIMMs if the corresponding processor is not installed
If only one processor is installed in a 2CPU system, only half of the DIMM slots are available
To maximize performance, balance the total memory capacity between all installed processors

Additional to the above information, here is what you can also try:
Update the Firmware of the BIOS to latest
Get into the BIOS, Under System Options, Select Core disabling options, One core Enabled.
Then change Power Management option, HP Power Profile, Select Maximum Performance.
Then change HP Power Regulator, Select HP Static High Performance Mode.
Install the 2nd Processor and it will Post.
Then get into BIOS and Enable all cores for the 1st Processor.

Thank You!
