HP DL380 G7 / Smart Array P410i memory expansion
the HP DL380G7 basic model comes with an integrated Smart Array P410i SAS controller. Memory of this controller is 256 MB. I decided to buy a 512 MB memory card (PN 462967-B21) which is specified for HP DL380G7 (Ref. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/th/en/sm/WF06c/A1-329290-332469-3965891-3965891-434812-3890508.html). So far the new module physically replaced the original 256 MB module w/o any problems. But if server is switched on, the Smart Array P410i displays "can not initialize controller" and no chance to boot up.

Re: HP DL380 G7 / Smart Array P410i memory expansion
Most of the time that means bad memory module or battery. Have you tried to reseat the memory and checked that the cabel to the battery is properly connected in both ends (battery-side and memory side).
Regards.

thanks for your appreciated help.
Cabling is properly. How to reset memory module? I suppose, module should even work without battery but I don't know it exactly.

Re: HP DL380 G7 / Smart Array P410i memory expansion
2. Insert the new card
3. Boot the server.
4. Install the drivers for the new card
5. Power off the server
6. Connect the cable to the new card
7. Remove the card.
8. Power on the server.
This should transfer the settings to the new card and there wont be ay data loss

Re: HP DL380 G7 / Smart Array P410i memory expansion
It's simply another memory module where no additional drivers are needed. So far your reply is a bit unspecific.
