HP DL380 Gen 9 servers do not automatically restart after firmware upgrades

Hi Support,

Some HP DL380 Gen 9 servers do not automatically restart after firmware upgrades:

The message from the ILO log:

APO: System configured to always remain off after power is restored.

However "Always Power On is set", output from conrep:

<Section name="Automatic_Poweron" helptext="For G7 and earlier only. Configures server to automatically power on when A/C power is applied to the system. This setting is not support by blade servers.">Enabled</Section>

<Section name="Automatic_Poweron_Gen8" helptext="For Gen8 and later. Configures server to automatically power on when A/C power is applied to the system. This setting is not support by blade servers.">Always_Power_On</Section>

Please could you investigate what prevent the system from restart after firmware upgrade?

Thanks & Regards

Have you connected any external devices like Storage device/USB devices, if yes, then remove them and try POST.
You may also try removing any PCI Devices that are not required for POST.

Re: HP DL380 Gen 9 servers do not automatically restart after firmware upgrades

In the event log it shows "APO: System configured to always remain off after power is restored".

Does the "System Power Restore Settings" affect whether firmware upgrade bring up the system after completion?

APO: iLO attempting to power-on the system

iLO attempted to power on the system according to the Auto Power On settings.

APO: Last power state restored

The Auto Power On setting was set to restore the last power state when the power to the system was restored.

APO: System configured to always remain off after power was restored

The Auto Power On setting was set to remain off after the power to the system was restored.

Re: HP DL380 Gen 9 servers do not automatically restart after firmware upgrades

Hi I Haq,

We have around 17 DL380 Gen9 machines, they were all showing "Always Power On" in the System Power Restore  Settings in iLo console BEFORE the firmware upgrade. However after the upgrade the machines were not power on and the log shows "APO: System configured to always remain off after power is restored.". Does anyone has idea what caused the issue?

Hi Ihaq,

We do not connect any external devices like Storage device/USB devices. Do you have any idea on the possible cause of the issue? Does anyone has similar experience?

Thank You.
