HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Hi Guys,

we upgraded our HP DL380 Gen10 with a NVME 8 BAY Drive Cage ins Slot 2 and also the Secondary Riser with the NVME Ports. The question now is how do we get the OS (Ubuntu 20.04) to recgonized the 3 insered NVME Disks?

I guess we need to install some sort of Drivers since the Disks are not connected to the S100 and need to be managed by the OS.

Any Hint would be highly appreciated.

cheers

Hi,

See if this helps https://itectec.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-nvme-ssd-is-not-detected-by-the-ubuntu-20-04-installer/

If you need help in configuring RAID or AHCI in BIOS, please refer to this guide.

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Thanks for Answering and taking Care Suman. The Problem is the drives are not identifyed at all.

Since NVME is not part of the RAID Configuration at all, the second link/idea in a dead end.

Looks like we are still at square one. I'm really suprised how bad the NVME Support is handled in the Dl380 Gen 10 Series.

No Clear explanation anywhere, what you need and what are the necassary steps.

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Ubuntu has an inbox driver, so that shouldn't be an issue. What are the part numbers for the drives, drive cage, and riser? Is the server on the latest SPP? Are the drives detected in BIOS and in iLO? How are you verifying whether Ubuntu sees the drives?

Hi Kevin,

thanks for taking care. The Drives are not Detected in the ILO but we see the the NVME 8 Cage there.

The SPP is the newest afaik, but will double check.

The Disks are :

The Riser:

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Hello,

I am guessing that the server has both Processor 1 and Processor 2 installed?

Do the NVMe drives Power On? They should have a Power Button to power them On/Off.

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Hi Vador,

That Server has Currently only 1 Processor installed. (if it is needed to have two installed we can do that)

The Drives can be powerd on, they are then Blinking.

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Yes, the second riser obtains its pcie lanes from the second CPU, so a second CPU must be installed.

Re: HP DL380 Gen10 - NVME Disks not recognized

Hello,

Yes. As also confirmed by @KevinSpringPM , the second processor is required as the PCI lanes to the Secondary Riser come from the Processor 2. This is also documented the server QuickSpecs.
