HP DL380e Gen 8 Server supports H220i RAID card ?

In one of our system we can see that when we disable the B320i SAS/SATA controller in the BIOS , an LSI H220i BIOS is getting activated  and can see LSI BIOS to manage this controller?

Is it a supported configuration ? Does DL380e exposes H220i controller for connecting drives ?

We are not able to see this controller anywhere in the spec of HP DL380e.

Thanks

Ciril

Hi,

Hope this document will help you understand H220i.

https://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_kc-0100329

"When users disable RAID mode for HP Dynamic SmartArray B320i/B120i the controller name will be H220i (DLs) or H210i (blades). "

Thank You!

Re: HP DL380e Gen 8 Server supports H220i RAID card ?

Thanks Suman

Currently i have a configuration where the B320i is working as H220i controllers and i have installed OS on the drive controlled by H220i. Everything is working fine except when i add a new LSI megaraid PCI card to the server, it stops booting from H220i.

Does HP supports booting from H220i controller in HP DL380e G8 server ? I didnt find anywhere in HP website about this server claiming this support in the documentation ?

Thanks

Hi,

I think it does not support booting except for Solaris.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/solaris/supportmatrix/index.html

"Supports the H220i storage controller with Solaris10 native mpt_sas driver."

Thank You!

As Sunan pointed out, when you disable the RAID mode of the B120i, it defaults to the plain SATA controller which reports as the H220i. Yes you can boot from this controller.

Sounds as the MegaRAID controller is inserting itself as the boot controller.

One more question on the H220i -  Is there a document which mentions the OS support matrix for H220i ?

Also any interoperability matrix which shows the supported configurations for this SAS controller ?

When the B320i RAID mode is disabled, this controller just becomes a plain generic disk controller, no special drivers are required. Windows and Linux will load standard generic drivers
