HP DL580 G4 DVD Drive

Dear Expert,

HP DL580 G4 DVD/CD Drive Having strange problem.

Windows 2003 Enterprise R2 is not reading the CD's from the drive and gives the following error in event log.

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\cdrom0

It works when we boot with bootable cd.

We have two servers and already swap DVD/CD Slim Drive with each other the drive works on another server.

Hi Vipul,

It sounds like it could be the Media Board or the Media pass-through board.

Please see the attached image which shows the DL580 G4 system component breakdown.

Possibly item 8 - HP Part 411790-001 or
item 7 - HP Part 410190-001.
Get HP to investigate since you have already eliminated the drive itself from being the problem.

Surprise to me as its a brand new servers we just got last week,

anyway will log a call for hp.

the worst part is it works while installing from bootable CD, it stop when you access from windows.

Media Board was not fitted proparly the HP support people re fitted the Media Board and its working now.
