HP DL580 multi CPU and memory managment.

Hi,
I'm using an HP Proliant DL580 with a 4 multi cpu system. This system is running under Windows 2003 Server, Std edition.
Today, I was looking at upgrading the ram memory for this server.
But I found on the Internet, that the memory that windows 2003 can managed is limited to 4Gb.
I have 2 questions :
- First, is that limit exact ?
- Second, isn't it possible for windows, or with an HP system, to managed 4 Gb memory per CPU ?

I know this question can be wired, but let me know if it is confusing.

Thanks

Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

you can install for example 8GB memory and it will be recognized from the server(in POST and RBSU).

Then comes the OS - windows 2003 Standard edition, which will only recognize and use 4GB, because of the OS restriction. If you install Enterprise Edition, you will get till 32GB.

yes, this applies to standard edition , check

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx

- The server can manage 4GB per CPU and will recognize them. You can use them with windows 2003 Enterprise, but not with standard edition.
