HP DL980G7 hangs during SLES10 SP3 64bit install
Starting udev . . .
.. . . udev running
Starting Hardware detection . . .
Activating usb devices . . . done
>int.16 parent
and that's where it stops and never continues.
I tried SLES10 SP2, SUSE10 SP3 32bit and the Windows2008, the install does not hang in this section.
Is there any compatibility between DL980 and SUSE10 SP3 64bit OS? HP claimed that DL980G7 supports this OS, but the Novell only certificated the SUSE11 SP1 to the supported list.
The Configuration is listed below:
DL980 G7, 8*E6540 CPU, 32G memory, 2*FC1142SR 4Gb PCI-E HBA, 512MB FBWC.

Re: HP DL980G7 hangs during SLES10 SP3 64bit install
there is a customer advisory released which might be the issue which you see here, have a look at this :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c02554690&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
When running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3 on the HP ProLiant DL980 G7 server configured with more than 64 logical processors, some highly threaded loads may expose deadlock conditions in the kernel when multiple processes are contending for the same resources simultaneously.
RESOLUTION
This does not occur with a kernel version later than 2.6.16 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1.
As a workaround, disable processor Hyper-threading via the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) by performing the following:
Note: Disabling Hyper-threading will cause Multi-threaded applications to not be fully utilized, which will affect performance.
During system boot, press F9 to enter the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU).
Select System Options -> Processor Options.
Set Intel Hyperthreading Options to "Disabled."

Re: HP DL980G7 hangs during SLES10 SP3 64bit install
I too have SLES 10 SP3 X64 hanging on int.16: Parent.
I have narrowed it down to NC375T nic.
I have downgraded the firmware of the nic to the latest but it still hangs in same place.
I have also downgraded firmware of the nic to the earliest but it still hangs.
Only way I can install SUSE 10 SP3 is to remove the NIC.
Platform is a DL380 G5.
