HP ML 350 RAID

Hi,

we have a Proliant ML 350 G4p server.
2x72 GB drives in Raid 1.

One of these drives have now failed, and we are planning to replace the drives with 2 new 146 GB drives (to extend storage and replace failed drive). So i wonder, whats the best way to do this?

Create a new array from the 2 new disks and migrate the logical drive?

Or replace the failed drive, rebuild, and then replace the other old drive and rebuild?

The Raid controller is a Smart Array 642.

Backup before doing it.

Add the 146GB as a spare. Let the array fail over to it. Backup after its healthy. Set another 146GB as a spare and fail the other drive. I would get a third and put it as a spare before you do either. Get good full backups.

Then you can expand the RAID array and OS partition.

Backup. Backup. Backup.

Ok,

thank you.

I was not sure if we could use the extra disk space if we did it this way.

Can we do this while the server is online or should i put it offline to rebuild?
